About the Good Together Learning Hub

The Good Together Learning Hub is designed to support international doctors transitioning into clinical practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This content has been designed in alignment with New Zealand regulatory standards, general practice expectations, cultural context, and the real-world challenges international doctors experience when transitioning into practice.

The following key areas have informed the content:
  • MCNZ – Good Medical Practice and standards of competence
  • RNZCGP – Curriculum and expectations of New Zealand general practice
  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi and hauora Māori - Cultural safety and equity
  • Transition insights – common clinical and systems challenges observed in IMGs entering NZ practice

Moving into a new healthcare system involves much more than obtaining registration. Doctors must also become familiar with how healthcare is organised, the expectations that guide clinical practice, and the communities they will care for.

The Learning Hub provides structured learning that helps doctors build this understanding both before arrival and during their early months of practice. The program is organised as a simple progression that reflects the journey many international doctors experience when relocating to New Zealand. The pathway begins with practical information about living and settling in New Zealand. It then introduces how the New Zealand health system operates, including the organisations and structures that shape healthcare delivery.

From there, the focus moves to the clinical frameworks that guide everyday practice, including professional expectations, patient safety and medico-legal responsibilities.

Finally, the pathway explores the cultural context of healthcare in Aotearoa, supporting doctors to better understand the diverse communities they will care for and the importance of culturally responsive practice.

Together, these modules provide a foundation that complements in-practice orientation and supervision, helping doctors feel more confident, informed and prepared as they begin practising in New Zealand.
